Steven Block is an experienced trial lawyer who represents companies and individuals in white-collar criminal and regulatory enforcement matters and complex civil litigation throughout the United States. Steven also conducts sensitive internal investigations for publicly traded companies and their boards, privately held businesses, and public agencies. Steven’s matters have involved allegations of corruption, insider trading, market manipulation, antitrust offenses, tax evasion, cybercrime, economic espionage, and other offenses.
Before reentering private practice in 2018, Steven served for almost a decade as a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois where he investigated and prosecuted hundreds of cases involving a wide range of complex white-collar offenses, with a particular emphasis on public corruption and financial crimes. While in the United States Attorney’s Office, Steven also served as a Deputy Chief, where he trained and supervised other prosecutors. Steven also previously served as Chief of the Special Prosecutions Bureau in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he supervised over 70 prosecutors and investigators and cases involving racketeering, public corruption and financial crimes. He is one of the few white-collar attorneys in Chicago with recent high-level supervisory experience on both the federal and state level.
