Practice Areas
Karl uses a pragmatic approach for high-stakes commercial litigation and arbitration. He assesses cases early and efficiently and collaborates with clients to form the right strategy and ultimately support business goals. Karl represents US-based companies and a variety of international clients and their affiliates on domestic and cross-border disputes.
Karl serves as the firm’s general counsel. He has experience representing clients across the US and the world in a broad range of complex, high-stakes commercial litigation and arbitration. Karl is fluent in German and is also the co-leader of the firm’s German Practice Team and a member of the Global Business Strategies Team.
In addition to his work for US clients in manufacturing, financial services, technology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, real estate, and other industries, Karl has represented ultra-high-net-worth individuals in business disputes and art law matters. He frequently manages parallel US and foreign litigation and has extensive experience in cross-border litigation. Karl has also been called upon to represent foreign governments or their agencies in US courts. As a result, he has developed insight into handling issues common to international dispute resolution, including those relating to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, the Act of State Doctrine, and obtaining discovery abroad.
