David Anstaett is a partner in Perkins Coie’s Intellectual Property and Patent Litigation practices. He is a first-chair trial lawyer who represents clients in intellectual property disputes and commercial litigation, with a particular focus on representing pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients in complex patent litigation.

David litigates patent infringement matters and licensing disputes in federal district courts throughout the country and at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. His trials frequently involve challenges to patents covering pharmaceutical products with multi-billion dollar annual revenues. David’s practice also includes handling high stakes inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. His successful argument at the PTAB led to the invalidation of a series of patents covering the blockbuster multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone®, decisions David successfully defended on appeal at the Federal Circuit. In addition to his U.S. practice, David frequently assists clients with related foreign litigations and proceedings, including in the UK, throughout Europe, and at the European Patent Office. He also counsels pharmaceutical companies on regulatory strategies and all aspects of the Hatch-Waxman Act. David’s practice also includes election and political law litigation and counseling and general commercial litigation.
