Practice Areas
As head of Stoel Rives’ wind energy subgroup, Chad Marriott serves as counsel to sponsors, owners, and investors, as well as commercial and industrial customers, in the development, sale, acquisition, and financing of renewable energy projects throughout the U.S.
Chad works prominently in the wind, solar, and battery energy storage spaces throughout the country, serving as sponsor’s counsel in the negotiation of more than $5 billion in tax equity and cash equity investments since 2016, including more than 4 GW of wind energy projects.
In 2021, A Word About Wind named Chad as one of the 100 most influential attorneys working globally on the financing of wind energy projects. His selection followed an extensive, independent ranking process undertaken by A Word About Wind’s editorial and insight teams in conjunction with its advisory board and panel of expert judges from the wind and finance sectors.
Chad has particular experience in the acquisition of operational and development stage wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects in the U.S. and Canada, as well as on the acquisition of historic wind assets for repowering. His background makes him an in-demand author and speaker on a wide range of topics in renewable energy nationwide and led to his appointment as an Adjunct Instructor of Renewable Energy Law and Regulation for the University of Oklahoma’s Executive MBA program through the Michael F. Price College of Business in 2022.
