Practice Areas

Amr Omran is a Senior Associate in our Dispute Resolution team in Dubai. He advises clients in construction, commercial and investor-state arbitrations involving contracts governed by major systems of law across a range of economic sectors. He has represented clients in major disputes under the ICC, DIAC, ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules. As a fluent Arabic speaker, he also regularly advises on procedural and substantive issues under the laws of various Middle Eastern countries.

Career

Amr has worked for Freshfields since 2014, initially as a stagiaire in the Paris office, and now placed in Dubai. Previously, Amr served as a public prosecutor in Cairo and a consultant at The World Bank in Washington, DC. He is admitted to practise in Egypt and New York, and is registered as a Legal Consultant with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department. He also sits regularly as arbitrator and is a judge on the Appeals Panel of the International Basketball Federation.

Personal

He is a Member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and an ICC YAAF Representative for the MENA Chapter. In 2020, Amr was recognised as one of Africa's 50 Most Promising Young Arbitration Practitioners. In 2022, Amr was ranked as an “Associate to Watch” in Chambers Global 2022 and as one of the Future Leaders in Arbitration by Who's Who Legal.

Amr holds a Licence en droit from Cairo University. He also holds an LLM from McGill University, an LLM from The American University in Cairo, and an LLM from Harvard Law School. Before arriving at Freshfields, he worked at the Financial Market Integrity unit of the World Bank Group in Washington, DC and at the Public Prosecution Office in Cairo.
