Recent high-profile matters including acting for/ advising:
  • Handled the first image rights case against a commercial bank that saw millions paid to the firm’s client in compensation.
  • Successfully represented Wave Intellectual Property Inc before the IP Registry in a trademark opposition. Our services saw the opponent’s application struck out for being confusingly similar to our client’s.
  • Successfully represented dfcu Bank in a recovery of USD USD 5,257,909 (United States Dollars Five Million Two Hundred Fifty-Seven Thousand Nine Hundred Nine). The instructions included foreclosure on two ginning factories located in Kasese District and Budaka District in Uganda.
  • Successfully acted for Ac yafeng Construction Company limited in a breach of contract dispute worth USD. 10,000.000/=. The matter went for arbitration, and it involved complex questions of construction law which were resolved in the firm clients’ favor.
  • Successfully acted for pro Industries Limited to enforce the contractual terms relating to the manufacturing, supply and delivery of factory equipment worth USD. 15,290,000/= (United States Dollars Fifteen Million Two Hundred Ninety Thousand Only for establishment of an ethanol plant in Uganda.
  • Advising China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in joint venture with China Railway 19th Bureau Group on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and construction of a 23.7km Mpigi - Busega Expressway Road project.
  • Advising Beta projects (on an EPC) on the construction of the Tilenga Oil & Gas Project infrastructure including due diligence and compliance checks on the installation of 4000-man Construction camp accommodation facilities, training facilities, construction offices, and related facilities.
  • Advising Sahara Energy on corporate governance, regulatory compliance and importation and exportation of oil and gas products in East Africa.
  • Advised Space for Giants and the Pian Upe Game Reserve Management on partnership contracts with Uganda Wildlife Authority, and nine local district governments to invest in restoration and employment of more conservation rewards to the locals in the Pian Upe and Amudat Community Wildlife Area of about 2,500 km2.
  • Advising Ugandan top commercial banks dfcu Bank, KCB Bank, Cairo Bank, I&M Bank and Tropical Bank on data protection, cyber security, intellectual property, cross border facility agreements as well as perfection of securities.
  • Defended Uganda’s largest ride hailing company against allegations of sale of personal data before the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO). Currently, the company’s data protection policies are the most commendable by Unwanted Witness.
  • Advised government of Uganda on the National ICT Initiatives Support Program (NIISP) to create a sustainable ecosystem for ICT innovators and Application Developers. Our efforts saw sixty (60) startups receive direct funding from the Ministry of ICT.
  • Successfully represented and defended Sylvia Nabiteko in a high-profile case involving the unauthorized use of her sculpture on the Ugandan 20,000-shilling note. The case centered around claims of copyright infringement and violation of her moral and economic rights.
