Global law firm Dentons has provided pro-bono advice to the Kenya Red Cross on concluding management contracts for three hotels in Kenya, with Aleph Hospitality.

The three hotels, operating under the Boma brand (Boma Nairobi, Boma Inn Nairobi and Boma Inn Eldoret), are owned by the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) through its Boma Pan-African subsidiary.

The appointment of the professional management entity is the first step towards re-positioning and improving the hotels. Dubai-based Aleph Hospitality will manage the properties for 10 years and help them regain profitability, with the ultimate goal of repositioning the Boma brand for the domestic and international markets. As part of the concluded management agreement, Aleph Hospitality has pledged financial support to the Kenya Red Cross Society, donating a percentage of its revenues from the hotels to local humanitarian initiatives.

“The restructuring of our hotel investment in Kenya is a strategic project for Kenya Red Cross, and we are happy to rely on Dentons’ support in the process. With all profits from our Boma hotels funding the Kenya Red Cross Society’s initiatives, it is extremely important to have a reliable legal partner, with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the hospitality sector. With Dentons’ support we will be able to leverage the successful operations of our hotels to further our humanitarian work,” said Dr Abbas Gullet, CEO of Boma Pan-African (and former Secretay General of Kenya Red Cross Society).

Partner Babette Märzheuser-Wood, Global Head of the Franchise group at Dentons, leads the project, supported by Berlin-based partner Jan Hellner.

“We are honored to support Red Cross in their hotel project in Kenya and, thus, indirectly contribute to the success of their humanitarian initiatives. Dentons is committed to give back to the community through pro bono legal advice, and we take this commitment very seriously. I am very much looking forward to this collaboration and the successful completion of the restructuring process,” commented Babette Märzheuser-Wood.
