New band and table rankings in the Chambers Canada 2024 Guide

Chambers Canada research continues to develop
This year’s guide has seen a number of sections that have gone through significant changes. To begin with, the sheer volume of lawyers we were able to research in some tables meant that for the first time ever, the Canada Guide introduced a band 6 in tables with an excessively high number of noteworthy lawyers: these were Restructuring & Insolvency – Nationwide – Canada and Employment & Labour – Ontario.
Indeed, as our research continues to develop each year, we are able to introduce additional distinctions in tables that initially were more limited in scope. The area of Human rights is of increasing significance worldwide and Canada is no different – thanks in no small part to the number of referees provided by firms for this section doubling over the past year, we were able to introduce numerical bandings in our Business & Human Rights section for the first time, with Fasken becoming the inaugural band 1 firm for the area.
Each year we also renew our efforts to review our current recognition in order to ensure we don’t idly let the market pass us by and are correctly identifying the premier firms and lawyers in any given area. As a result of this process for the 2024 Guide, we were able to introduce department rankings for the first time in two sections – Stockwoods LLP became the first firm with a department ranking in the area of Crime, while a total of 6 firms are now recognized for their expertise in relation to Arbitrations, the result of a multi-year assessment we conducted in which interviews revealed a growing market dissatisfaction with the court process in the aftermath of Covid-related delays and an increasing reliance on arbitral bodies to settle disputes.
