What is Movember and why is it important?

Movember is an annual event over the month of November involving the growing of moustaches to raise awareness about men's health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health problems.

Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis, and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.

Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

It was in 2003 when the first Movember began and since then has created a men's health movement of more than 5 million supporters around the world, funding 1,250+ (and counting) men's health projects across 20 countries.

How do people participate in Movember?

The moustache is the driving symbol of the movement, and in the month of Movember, participants grown out moustaches in an array of styles, all designed to demonstrate solidarity and raise further awareness.

For those who wish to participate in Movember without growing a moustache, other ways to get involved include runs or walks of 60km over the course of the month in honour of the 60 men lost to suicide each hour, every hour, across the globe.

At Chambers we are delighted to help raise awareness of the importance of men's health with many of our colleague's showing their support by growing moustaches, painting moustaches on their faces, and we are also helping raise funds with a Chambers fundraiser which can be found and donations welcome here.

We are also proud to be holding an internal Virtual Health Talk where we are delighted to be joined by a representative of Movember who will discuss the charity's history and provide information on men's health and how to support those in most needed.
