A note on Africa-Wide research
Please note that where ‘Africa-Wide’ is listed on the research schedule, this refers specifically to our Africa-Wide ranking tables, which are distinct from the ranking tables for each individual African country.
Africa-Wide sections
The Africa-Wide sections are intended to highlight law firms with genuine breadth across Africa. Greatest credit will be given to law firms which are able to demonstrate a consistent level of activity coordinating large-scale matters across multiple African jurisdictions, typically acting in the role of international counsel.
Depending on the level of client feedback, there may also be a place in the Africa-Wide rankings for law firms which maintain very strong domestic teams in the relevant practice area across multiple jurisdictions, but which are typically active in the role of local counsel in each specific location. Such law firms will generally be ranked lower in Africa-Wide, though they may have a top-tier ranking in their home country.
Law firms whose work entirely relates to a single African country are unlikely to have a place in the Africa-Wide rankings and these firms are best advised to submit to the relevant practice area in the country where they are based (e.g. Nigeria Dispute Resolution, South Africa Corporate/M&A etc).
