Dispute Resolution

■ Advised and represented an international bank in the landmark Bharat Aluminium (BALCO) case that redefined the arbitration landscape in India
■ Defended a high net-worth Indian family in an international commercial arbitration, held under the London Court of International Arbitration Rules in Paris, for a claim >US$ 225 million brought by a London-based Magic Circle firm
■ Representing family offices and high net-worth individuals in family disputes, arbitrations and / or for negotiating complex family settlements
■ Represented a global media conglomerate in a dispute, resulting in a judgement that settled the law on the contractual value of letters of comfort
■ Represented India’s most diversified educational services company to seek payment moratoriums, to tide over the economic fallout of nation-wide lockdowns due to COVID-19
■ Representing the largest statutory depository in the Indian capital market in litigation involving actions against stockbrokers
■ Successfully concluded an extraordinary fifteen-year long litigation relating to valuable real estate in Mumbai, involving complex questions of law in contract, arbitration, company law and the subsequently enacted Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code

White Collar Crimes
■ Represented and advised the former MD & CEO of one of India’s largest private sector banks in proceedings before the Securities & Exchange Board of India and in investigations by law enforcement agencies
■ Representing the promoters of one of India’s largest non-banking financial companies in ongoing criminal, civil and insolvency matters and transactions
■ Represented and advised the former Chief Minister of the State of Maharashtra in a widely reported anti-corruption case
■ Commenced class action proceedings on behalf of 13,000+ investors to recover amounts exceeding US$ 750+ million leading to a series of orders being passed by the Bombay High Court, setting a precedent, in a scam involving India’s first electronic commodity spot exchange

Corporate & Commercial Law
■ Appointed by the Bombay High Court to assist the Court in monitoring the steps being taken by the Official Liquidator and Court Receiver for the sale of a leading conglomerate’s largest assets (including an entire resort city) valued at ~US$ 4.6 billion (The High Court was directed to monitor the sale by the Supreme Court of India.)
■ Structured the transfer of business undertakings for an Indian commodities and derivatives exchange
■ Structuring family settlements involving complex issues of tax, stamp duty and corporate restructuring
■ Advising a reputed mutual funds investment company in respect of diverse investments

Bankruptcy & Insolvency
■ Acting for a US-based private investment fund with an AUM >US$ 1 billion in highly litigated insolvency resolution proceedings (under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code) of an Indian automotive parts manufacturing company
■ Represented India’s largest private commercial ports operator in the disputed insolvency resolution proceedings of an Indian port, along with providing continued support for implementation of the resolution plan
■ Representing promoters of several of India’s largest corporates in insolvency resolution proceedings, including the first financial services company in India to be restructured under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code
■ Representing financial creditors to commence insolvency resolution proceedings as well as various prominent corporates to defend against such proceedings
■ Represented a consortium of Indian and international fund houses in a litigation challenging the irregularities arising out of the corporate insolvency resolution of two interlinked companies

Real Estate & Construction
■ Represented a developer in a redevelopment project in South Mumbai of a value >US$ 122 million, involving complex issues of tenancy and property law
■ Representing a leading Mumbai based real estate group in negotiating a complex settlement with 250+ individuals
■ Advised and represented various investors and developers in complex real estate transactions relating to takeovers and corporate restructuring involving the interplay of company law with regional tenancy, slum rehabilitation and town planning law issues

Constitutional, Education & Environmental Law
■ At the forefront of public interest litigations to protect the environment, including litigation to protect eco-sensitive zones in the State of Maharashtra and disputes over the land of textile mills in Mumbai
■ Advising and representing a large number of educational institutions, including a litigation that resulted in a landmark judgment of the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the Right to Education Act
■ Providing advisory, litigation, and arbitration services to one of India’s premier institutions of higher education in relation to new age technical programmes, large-scale modernisation and multi-campus expansion
