Tony Jaffa

Tony is the founding partner of Jaffa Law. He advises on all areas of media, information, and intellectual property law.

His clients are primarily newspapers and online news publishers, broadcasters, and web publishers, but he also advises companies, other trading bodies, and selected individuals.

Tony's areas of expertise include defamation; infringement of copyright; privacy; data protection; pre-publication/pre-broadcast copy checking; post-publication complaints; litigation and mediation; compliance with the Codes of Practice issued by the Independent Press Standards Organisation, IMPRESS, the Advertising Standards Authority, and Ofcom; contempt of court; and Court reporting restrictions.

Tony is a regular speaker and commentator on media law matters.

Whilst Tony is an expert litigator, he actually spends much of his time advising clients on how best to resolve disputes and avoid litigation in a commercially attractive and cost effective way.

Tony is also admitted as a solicitor in Northern Ireland, a jurisdiction in which a number of his clients operate; and he has a working knowledge of libel, freedom of expression, and contempt in the USA.

Tony qualified in England and Wales in 1980, and was admitted as a solicitor in N. Ireland in 2011.

He began his career as a commercial litigator in the City, before joining Foot Anstey, where he became a partner and head of the firm's Editorial Media Team.

He founded Jaffa Law as a specialist media law firm in 2020.
