Rakesh is a dedicated and professional corporate and commercial lawyer who has extensive experience in corporate and commercial Saudi matters, particularly in JVs, M&A, family business, structuring businesses and operations, merger control and complex commercial contracts, corporate governance, offerings/ placements, as well as corporate and commercial dispute strategy, etc.

He has 22+ years of legal experience (13 years of which have been in Saudi Arabia). His Saudi experience includes working at international law firms such as Clifford Chance, DLA Piper, and Al Tamimi & Co (where he headed up their offices in Jeddah). In London, he gained his experience at Norton Rose Fulbright and Hogan Lovells.

Rakesh is based in Riyadh, overseeing corporate/commercial mandates across Saudi Arabia.

He is well known for his expertise and insights in Saudi joint ventures, acquisitions, restructurings, and commercial transactions and his understanding of Shariah. Over the last number of years, he is regarded as one of the few highly experienced merger control (competition) lawyers in Saudi Arabia.

Career

Rakesh Bassi joined Hammad & Al-Mehdar as a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Department in December 2020.
