Joey is a pioneer of regulation in the virtual currency and distributed ledger technology space. He was recognised by Chambers & Partners as one of the top 12 lawyers in the world in its inaugural DLT global rankings.
He is ranked as a Bank 1 Fintech lawyer and is a member of the prestigious global Wharton Reg@Tech think tank in Philadelphia. He is a founding member of the European thinkBlocktank, and through this, the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications. He is also the co-chair of the Gibraltar Association of New Technologies.
Joey is also a member and contributor to the UNODC Southeast Asia working group and the Digital Chamber of Commerce in Washington and he co-chaired the Government’s working group on blockchain, developing the infrastructure to accommodate a specific DLT regulatory framework in Gibraltar.
He contributed to Global Legal Insight’s book on Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Regulation for 2019, the United Nations ODC manual for law enforcement agencies, among other publications.
Joey has advised large DLT organisations including Xapo, where he was appointed as the representative for the group within the Libra Association, Huobi, RSK, Gnosis, Bitso, Coinfirm and the Gibraltar Stock Exchange and is engaged by the Government of Gibraltar.
