Career
Dr. İsmail G. Esin graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1990. After acquiring his LL.M degree from Tübingen University Germany in 1991, Dr. Esin started his legal career as a research assistant at Marmara University, Department of Civil Law in 1992. Dr. Esin completed his Ph.D at the University of Tübingen in 1997 and established Esin Attorney Partnership in 1997 after returning to Istanbul. Presently a partner of the firm, Dr. İsmail G. Esin co-heads the Firm's Dispute Resolution Practice and acts as an arbitrator and counsel.
He has over 25 years of experience advising clients in dispute resolution, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, privatization and real estate matters. He regularly advises banks, multinational companies, governments and private equity funds on investments and major projects in Türkiye, Europe, the Middle East as well as assisting them with their disputes. He represents leading Turkish and international companies before local and international arbitral tribunals under the rules of various arbitration institutions (ICC, LCIA, ASA, DIS, ISTAC, ITOTAM, etc.).
Dr. İsmail G. Esin has lectured at Marmara University (1992-2004 and 2023-2024), Istanbul Bilgi University (2002-2009), Galatasaray University (2005-2006), Yeditepe University (2013-2015), and Bilkent University (2021-2022). Dr. İsmail Esin, has published several articles on M&A as well as dispute resolution including the 5th edition of his book "Mergers and Acquisitions" (December, 2022).
In addition to serving as counsel on arbitration and litigation matters, İsmail also serves as an arbitrator in various cases especially disputes arising from mergers and acquisitions as well as construction projects.
