Charles F. Robinson of University of California Board of Regents
Legal insiders applaud Charles Robinson’s ability to “develop relationships and build bridges,” a skill that’s put to the test in his role as general counsel for the University of California. His remit sees him oversee all the legal affairs of California’s biggest employer, which includes issues raised by its operations of ten campuses, five medical centers and three national laboratories and its almost 540 000-strong body students and staff. His role also sees him advice on and handle advocacy on a broad spectrum of public policy issues for the university system, most notably in a lawsuit brought against the Trump Administration to challenge its attempts to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy.
Robinson arrived at the university in 2007, having previously held in-house roles within electricity operator California Independent System Operator, Packard Bell and Raychem. His private practice career saw him spend over a decade within the litigation group at Heller Ehrman.
