Brett Carr is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Payments Practice and the Fintech Industry Group.

Brett's practice covers a range of financial services advice spanning payments, consumer finance, and digital assets. His primary focus is advising investors, banks, card networks and payment system operators, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, fintech platforms, and technology companies on their most complex regulatory issues. Brett is experienced in advising many of the most notable names in the fintech and payments market on diverse concerns, including domestic and cross-border structuring and expansion matters, licensing and conduct of business obligations, engagement with regulators and supervisory matters, commercial arrangements and joint ventures, and other product development work. Brett's work also includes advising central banks and regulators on the design and extension of national payments and fintech regulatory regimes in both developing and developed markets.

Brett is a leading advocate for the sector and is an active member of The Payments Association’s Regulatory Working Group and Open Banking Working Group, engaging on behalf of the sector with government, regulators, and other leading trade associations.

Brett has completed a secondment to the Consumer & Digital Finance legal team at Goldman Sachs, advising on a range of matters including digital assets, transaction banking, and the consumer business, Marcus.

Prior to joining Latham, Brett practiced in the London office of an international law firm. During this time, he completed secondments to a leading global bank and a Swiss private bank.
