Initially, the firm had a strong focus on advising companies in relation to implementation and further development of compliance management systems and in the area of corporate governance. Initial mandates included comprehensive compliance risk analyses and health checks. This scope quickly expanded with the establishment as a recognized firm in the legal market, the inclusion of additional partners into the partnership, a strong focus on international mandates in the area of compliance monitorships, and the growing area of internal investigations.

In parallel to its prominent corporate monitorship practice, Pohlmann & Company developed a strong investigation practice, well known as premium address for clients when it comes to independently conducting, advising and navigating companies, management members or supervisory boards and audit committees through complex (international) investigations – both on the interface with regulatory proceedings and investigations, financing/investor-driven issues (keyword: ESG) as well as with regard to corporate culture issues, such as in particular allegations of discrimination and sexual harassment ("Me too") as well as advice in connection with cyber attacks.

The investigation practice greatly benefits from the fact that internationally experienced first-class lawyers seamlessly collaborate with Pohlmann & Company's internal advisory and forensics team. This close cooperation enables the firm to have small client-dedicated teams to not only deliver legal analysis and advise but also perform the necessary in-depth financial transaction reviews and testing and thus provide seamless one-stop investigation services, including with a view to related regulatory and judicial enforcement.

With many years of experience at the interface of preventive compliance management and required remediation and internal investigations, even in times of crisis and with the involvement of authorities, we have an excellent reputation at the executive levels of companies: We are valued and called-in by supervisory boards and audit committees, boards of directors, managing directors, and their direct reports for our experience in structuring and evaluating the corporate governance within companies and (international) groups. We are involved in the legal processing of D&O matters and in the set-up of a legally compliant and efficient organization, including delegation of responsibilities.

An essential core of our consulting practice is the development and implementation of innovative and effective compliance tools and IT-supported compliance applications. In the form of a train-the-trainer approach, we use our many years of experience as in-house compliance officers and external consultants to create and implement practice-oriented, interactive training and communication measures. From individual and group-specific compliance dialogues to target-group-specific classroom training to a comprehensive e-learning program we support the entire bandwidth.

In particular, legal compliance advice also includes advice to executive bodies, i.e. advice on legal obligations in dealing with relevant issues, up to and including the examination and enforcement of defense against possible liability claims (D&O).

Finally we have longstanding experience with environmental compliance. Through the early expansion of the environmental compliance practice area and strategically important competence and experience in the future topics of aviation and climate protection law, we react flexibly and competently to current challenges, such as the topic of ESG. Our expertise includes in particular risk management and best practice in the areas of environmental claim management, environmental management systems, environmental compliance and restructuring contracts. We specialize in the spin-off of environmental liability risks to increase corporate value and have developed new contract structures for green building. We have advised on numerous major projects as well as in crisis situations – sometimes in a leading role – on compliance health checks and internal investigations.
