Currey & Co is a boutique private client firm focussed on providing clients with innovative and strategic advice tailored to their specific needs. The firm’s expertise covers all aspects of tax, trust and estate planning, centred on the orderly transmission of wealth down the generations.

Founded in 1812, Currey & Co has a long history of acting for prominent land-owning and other wealthy families throughout the UK. Clients of the firm include a number of the UK’s largest landed estates and wealthy mercantile families. Unlike other firms, we have chosen to focus on onshore clients, many of whom have been clients for numerous generations. However, our expertise is not limited to onshore advice and we do also advise on offshore and cross-jurisdictional matters as necessary.

Currey & Co strive to ensure that each client receives the highest level of personalised service, which we believe can only be delivered through a partner-led approach and an intimate understanding of a client’s affairs. Our bespoke offering means that we continue to encapsulate the traditional “trusted adviser” role within a modern setting, acting hand in hand with other professional advisers to meet our clients’ needs over several generations. By virtue of the long term nature of our approach, Currey & Co is rarely able to take on discrete pieces of work for individuals with whom we have no previous association.

The firm does not offer training contracts but always welcomes applications from qualified solicitors with excellent academic credentials and relevant (or transferable) experience.

Our property department principally handles work on behalf of the firm’s land-owning clients. It is a specialist Landed Estates property department, with a necessarily broad practice base, including:

• Handling the acquisition and disposal of farms, estates and country houses
• Farm business tenancies, AHAs and contract farming agreements
• Complex estate refinancing
• Advising on sporting rights, easements, profits and other incorporeal hereditaments
• Residential conveyancing of freehold and leasehold property
• Drafting and negotiating both residential and commercial leases
• Options for development
• Dealing with first registrations of land and manorial rights and interests
• Biodiversity Net Gain schemes and energy project leases
• Advising on leasehold enfranchisement and the purchase/disposal of short residential leases
