Firm Overview:
Arteo is a Brussels-based independent boutique law firm founded in 2020 by the members of the renowned tax department of a Belgian full-service law firm. Arteo focuses on three areas of expertise: (i) tax advisory and controversy work, offering the full spectrum of tax services, (ii) wealth and estate planning, and (iii) Supreme Court (Court of Cassation) procedures. Arteo is the Belgian member of the worldwide Taxand network, a non-exclusive network of independent tax firms.

Tax Controversy:
Assistance in litigation in front of the tax authorities and the courts, including the Court of Cassation, the Constitutional Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union. The team has a particular strength and experience in tax disputes, as illustrated by the numerous complex tax disputes that it is handling and its involvement in landmark cases. Daniel Garabedian is admitted to the bar of the Belgian Supreme Court, where he is regularly representing clients in high-profile tax cases.

Corporate Tax Advisory:
Corporate tax advice, predominantly to large enterprises and multinationals. The firm’s work includes the analysis of the tax consequences of restructurings, tax risk management and assistance in the process of obtaining tax rulings.

Real Estate Tax:
Assistance on all tax matters relating to real estate, both national and international: structuring and due diligence work in relation to real estate transactions, restructurings of real estate companies, structuring of real estate development projects, tax aspects of real estate investment funds, etc. The team is headed by Stéphane Wilmet and Charlotte Bihain.

Transactions Tax:
Structuring transactions and management compensation packages, conducting (buy-side and sell-side) tax due diligences, drafting and negotiating the tax clauses, monitoring the implementation, both for industrial clients and private equity.

VAT & Other Indirect Taxes:
Advising on the VAT aspects of transactions (and other indirect taxes), assistance in front of the tax authorities, and representation before the courts, including the Court of Justice of the European Union. Private Clients:
Advising family entrepreneurs and private clients regarding their family businesses and other investments. Besides (estate) tax advice, the team is also involved in managing and preserving family assets through controlling entities, family governance and succession planning, matters of marital property law and inheritance law (drafting of marital agreements and wills), compliance (FATCA/CRS/UBO register), and issues of international private law in general.
