Overview

Environmental Law in Paraguay was, in many respects, pioneered by the Vouga team, among other very few boutique firms. Our Firm actively participates in initiatives to formulate new regulations in sectors that lack them and changes to current environmental regulations that may affect economic activities (in particular industrial ones) in order to improve environmental standards within the framework of sustainable development. The Firm is consulted on a regular basis by local environmental authorities on behalf of the Paraguayan Industrial Guild and is thus helping set the agenda on the matter.

The firm advises on a wide range of environmental matters including:

  • Environmental licenses for mining, oil & gas, water, conservation, industrial and forestry projects;
  • Environmental due diligences;
  • Evaluation of legal environmental contingencies;
  • Formulation of action plans for compliance with environmental laws;
  • Administrative and judicial litigation on environmental matters;
  • Advice on various environmental protection regimes such as exploitation of water and mineral resources, generation of renewable energy and protected species and areas;
  • Assistance in certification processes in accordance with the standard ISO 14000 and OSHA 18000;
  • Drafting of environmental clauses for contracts;
  • Following-up of environmental legislation, regulations, and case law.
