About

Provided by Stikeman Elliott LLP

Our Energy - Oil & Gas Group is highly experienced in a broad array of oil and gas transactions and disputes. Our lawyers understand how changing regulatory frameworks, fluctuating commodity prices and unpredictable global economic trends impact our clients’ businesses.

We have strong relationships with key policy and decision-makers in the highly regulated oil and gas industry. We represent clients before the Canada Energy Regulator, the Alberta Energy Regulator and other federal and provincial regulatory authorities.

Our Energy - Power Group supports clients through all phases of conventional and renewable power projects and related transactions. Our regulatory and commercial expertise takes clients from initial development and permitting phases through commercial operations. We also have substantial dispute resolution experience in the power sector.

We provide expertise in such critical areas as market design/evolution, environmental law and Aboriginal relations. Clients will be able to quickly identify and work constructively with stakeholders and Aboriginal groups to win the necessary acceptance and social license that are increasingly critical to the success of many power projects.

The firm represents domestic and international project developers, utilities and financial players, as well as regulatory and government agencies. We have also served as regulatory counsel to key government agencies and have acted as appellate and enforcement counsel to the Ontario Energy Board.
