In the last year, the Banking & Finance practice group has seen an increase in briefs from bank clients in respect of conventional banking facilities, as compared to the previous year. 

At the same time, the aviation finance team has been busy with new matters involving, among others, the securitization of aircraft financing/leasing.  In the past year alone, they have advised on at least 17 aircraft leases/sub-leases for several aircraft leasing/financing companies as well as banks.   Partner Chong Kok Seng, who is experienced in aviation financing, is advising in respect of the debt restructuring of AirAsia X Berhad on behalf of several creditors that are major aircraft financing specialists.

The firm has also gained a reputation for its capabilities in advising on financial technology and digital banking.

The Banking & Finance team has been boosted with the arrival of Dr Syed Adam Alhabshi, an Islamic Finance lawyer who joined the firm in April 2022 from another established firm, in a move that is aimed at expanding and fast-tracking the firm’s Islamic Finance practice.  His admission will in all likelihood result in an increase in work such as Shariah and regulatory compliance, product structuring, corporate financing transactions and debt restructuring matters, all from the Islamic Finance perspective.
