The Agricultural Department at Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand is one of very few legal departments in the region that truly specialises in agriculture and rural affairs. The department’s excellent reputation has been built over many years.

The Agricultural Property Department is proud to be able to set itself apart by virtue of the in-depth agricultural knowledge of the members of the team. Partner, John Myers graduated from University with a degree in Agriculture before going on to study law and undertaking his training at the firm under Martin Gillibrand, a nationally renowned agricultural solicitor. Avelina Wright, made a partner in 2021, is a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association as are all members of the department. This background really enables the department to understand the areas our clients operate in and considerably enhances the service we are able to provide to them.

The department handles a broad range of agricultural matters including the acquisition and disposal of agricultural land, farms, estates and forests, acting on behalf of both landlords and tenants in respect of agricultural tenancy matters, providing advice in relation to rights of common, sporting and fishing rights and renewable energy projects - in particular solar farm developments throughout Lancashire and Cumbria and more recently battery storage projects. The department acts for the owners of many large-scale farming businesses, Estate owning families and institutional landowners.
