About
Provided by Herbert Smith Freehills
We have a strong reputation for dispute resolution in the Philippines. Our connections with the top-ranked law firms in Manila are firmly established. Many of our clients are household names (both in the Philippines and globally). We have developed a strong relationship with the Government of the Philippines. Having acted for the Government previously, we are invited to pitch for work with the Office of the Solicitor General to provide assistance to government-linked companies from time to time.
A key differentiator from our competitors is our knowledge of local law issues. Whilst international firms are not permitted to advise on Philippines law, we have experience conducting our own advocacy in Philippines-related cases and therefore regularly argue points of local law before international tribunals. Indeed, many of our key instructions over the past few years have come from law firms in Manila, who have been approached to handle arbitration cases for their local clients but who need assistance in arguing the case from international counsel.
Another key factor which sets us apart from our competitors is the strength of our non-contentious offering in the Philippines, particularly our projects and infrastructure experience. Many of our principal client relationships in the Philippines are institutional. We act on both major projects and key disputes. Very few firms have this depth or breadth of expertise.
