About
Provided by Chapman Tripp
Our tax practice advises on the full spectrum of corporate transactions requiring taxation law advice including M&A, restructurings, cross border capital repatriation and dividend issues, tax disputes with the Inland Revenue Department, and capital raising exercises. Our specialists are involved in high profile tax policy work, having contributed to changes to both New Zealand and international law.
Multinational companies regularly call on our skilled and experienced tax team to help them successfully navigate domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
Our team comprises market-leading experts with accounting and legal qualifications, with the unique ability to assist at all points of a transaction cycle. This includes assisting with the structure, drafting and negotiating of transaction documents, and developing and implementing a post transaction step plan. The team is unique in that, in addition to seasoned legal tax experts (Partners Graeme Olding and David Patterson), we have individuals with Trans-Tasman experience in Big Four accounting firms and in-house legal experience. The latter in particular means we are uniquely placed to understand clients’ tax requirements.
The tax team worked on some of the most significant matters in the market in the last 12 months, including NZ’s largest M&A transaction (the sale of Vector Gas Limited to First State Funds for NZ$952.5m) and we continue to provide tax advice on many of New Zealand’s major infrastructure projects.
