About

Provided by Chapman Tripp

We have a proven track record of developing robust commercial solutions to complex legal problems. Our cross-sector expertise and extensive experience helps us to provide solutions that meet both public policy and commercial objectives. Our clients appreciate our strong understanding of the commercial drivers of government.

We help clients to understand the legal obligations that govern decision making and how to work within those constraints to produce outcomes that are commercially acceptable and minimise legal risk. We’re known for advising stakeholders to effectively manage confidential, market-sensitive cases and have experience advising on the storage and movement of sensitive information.

We provide guidance on a range of public issues including the Official Information Act, the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act, Crown Entities Act, parliamentary issues including select committee powers, and the disallowance of regulations. We advise on the application of administrative law to a range of situations and regularly appear on applications for judicial review, and applications for interim orders. We provide advice and guidance on the development of statutory decision-making frameworks to minimise the chances of successful legal challenge.

We have a dedicated Wellington-based team featuring seven specialists but integrate seamlessly with complementary legal practices such as a strong litigation practice and a market leading corporate and commercial team.
