BonelliErede’s antitrust team operates a fully integrated practice across Brussels, Rome and Milan. Indeed, the firm’s antitrust practice is made of around 40 professionals, 8 of which are based in Brussels – including partner Massimo Merola.

The Brussels office has outstanding experience in dealing with all the aspects of State aid control, in handling merger control cases, and in advising clients on antitrust law, foreign direct investment control and EU law matters. The team stands out in the Brussels legal scene for its State aid practice, which has historically been at least as relevant as the merger control/antitrust practice, both in terms of number and size of matters and workload. The team also boasts a number of foreign clients. In relation to the antitrust practice, the team assists with any aspect of antitrust relevance relating to merger, acquisition, and JV transactions, dealing with the identification of the jurisdictions in which the transaction has to be notified, the substantial impact of the transaction on the relevant markets and the notification to the competent authorities in the European Union or in non-EU countries.
