Overview

Blackfords LLP has a well established family team, dealing with the whole range of family law, including divorce and separation, ancillary relief, domestic violence, wardship and adoption. The team is particularly well known for their leading expertise in children matters including private and public law children cases and public law care proceedings where there are parallel criminal proceedings and/or inflicted injuries.

Many of the cases handled are extremely complex and can involve issues such as serious injuries to children, allegations of sexual abuse and parallel criminal proceedings. The team regularly assist clients with learning disabilities or mental illness, and represent individuals in situations where the evidence of medical experts and child witnesses is key to the outcome. 

Cross-border children matters is a growing area of practice and we have acted in a number of highly international matters involving issues such as adoption and international child abduction matters over the past year.
