Media, technology and brands law firm Wiggin has bolstered its position as the UK’s leading advisor to these sectors with partner and computer games specialist, Paul Gardner, previously with Osborne Clarke.
Gardner specialises in commercial transactions relating to the production, financing and exploitation of interactive entertainment products and services. He also advises on the various regulatory issues that this involves, including laws and regulations relating to age ratings, virtual currencies, broadcasting and telecoms, collecting societies, data privacy, e-commerce and betting and gaming.
Gardner works with companies of all sizes, from start-ups to multi-nationals and with games for all platforms, from mobile to Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming (MMOGs). He is a member of the Video Game Bar Association and is named by the legal directories as one of the UK’s leading lawyers in the computer games industry.
Wiggin CEO, John Banister, said: “This expansion reflects the increasing levels of interest and activity we are seeing in the computer games industry, both from clients in this industry and from clients in other media and technology sectors. From market consolidation to increased regulation, the computer games industry has a myriad of opportunities and challenges ahead and it is timely for us to invest further in this area. We are especially pleased to have Paul’s experience to further develop our computer games practice and to support and develop the work that our film, media finance and betting and gaming practices are already doing in these sectors.”
