We are proud to announce that William (Bill) Braithwaite, Chair of the firm, is recognized in Canadian Lawyer magazine as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada for 2018. Not surprisingly, exceptional legal expertise and strong influence in the legal profession led Bill to receive this exclusive recognition. For over 40 years, he has been a significant presence in the legal community and a powerful advocate for his clients, steadfast colleague, and robust leader for the firm. “In the last six years, Bill has led the firm with strong leadership and dedicated passion, while still servicing his clients with unwavering focus and superior performance. It is fitting that Bill is awarded this title”, says Jay Kellerman, Stikeman Elliott’s Toronto Managing Partner.

Bill led his firm’s team in the #1 deal of 2017 for representing Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan’s merger with Agrium Inc. He was also counsel on some of the major foreign acquisitions including, CNOOC’s acquisition of Nexen, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan’s successful defence of BHP’s unsolicited take-over bid and Lowe's acquisition of Rona. Further, The Best Lawyers in Canada recognized Bill as “Lawyer of the Year” in Corporate Law for 2017.

Canadian Lawyer magazine’s annual peer survey recognizes significant work completed in the past 18 months by these exceptional lawyers. It is not only their leadership and influence in the legal profession which earns them a spot on this list but also a high level of respect held for them by their peers. Honourees have demonstrated an ability to influence public opinion, help shape Canadian laws and contribute to the quality of legal services, as well as having displayed social and political influence and involvement.

Please join us in congratulating Bill on this monumental recognition!
