Hong Kong, 16 October 2017: Boase Cohen & Collins Senior Partner Colin Cohen was among the delegates as Hong Kong hosted the Regional Arbitral Institutes Forum (RAIF) Conference at the Grand Hyatt on Saturday.

The all-day event, featuring a series of lectures together with a panel discussion and Q&A session, examined significant developments in international arbitration with a focus on Asia Pacific.

Keynote speakers included the Secretary for Justice, Rimsky Yuen SC; the Honorable Justice Kemal Bokhary, who serves as a Non-permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal; and the Honorable Madam Justice Shen Hongyu of the Supreme People’s Court of China.

“This excellent conference was the latest in a series of welcome developments that, taken together, are cementing Hong Kong’s status as an international centre for arbitration,” said Mr Cohen.

“Just last month we had a hugely worthwhile arbitration seminar, organised by the Hong Kong Academy of Law, which helped launch the Law Society of Hong Kong’s new Panel of Arbitrators, and during the summer the Legislative Council passed the long-awaited bill to allow third party funding of arbitration and mediation.”

Mr Cohen is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, which hosted Saturday’s conference, and he is one of just 24 solicitors appointed to the Law Society’s Panel of Arbitrators, a hand-picked list of experienced lawyers whose services are promoted to professional institutes, chambers of commerce and consumer groups. He is also an Accredited General Mediator with both the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Law Society.
