Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu is pleased to announce the establishment of its Silicon Valley office in California, USA, the firm’s first office on the U.S. West Coast. We aim to have the office begin operating from August 2026.

For many years, with our New York office as our U.S. base, we have consistently handled a broad range of international matters, including support for Japanese companies entering the U.S. market, cross-border M&A, finance transactions, and dispute resolution, building a strong track record and deep expertise in the process. In recent years, Japanese companies have become increasingly active in investing in U.S. startups, making venture capital investments, forming business alliances, pursuing M&A, and collaborating on research and development. On the U.S. West Coast in particular, demand for Japan-U.S. collaboration has been growing not only in the technology sector but also across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, mobility, entertainment, and life sciences.

The opening of the Silicon Valley office will further strengthen our on-the-ground capabilities in handling the increasing number of matters related to the U.S. West Coast, building on the experience and network we have developed in the United States over many years.

Our Silicon Valley office will enable us to provide more responsive and wide-ranging legal services to Japanese-affiliated companies operating in the advanced industry and related sectors centered in Silicon Valley, including AI, semiconductors, space, life sciences, software, startups, and venture capital, as well as those doing business in San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other parts of the U.S. West Coast. We will also enhance our capacity to advise U.S. West Coast companies on Japanese law and to support their cross-border matters as they consider entry into the Japanese market, along with investments, business alliances, joint ventures, M&A, and similar transactions. In doing so, we will remain committed to providing increasingly seamless and comprehensive legal services for international matters.

Ryosuke Isaji, who has been based at the firm’s New York office since 2022, will be resident in the Silicon Valley office as its Representative. Mr. Isaji is admitted in California (registration pending) and New York and is also qualified in Japan.

In connection with the opening of the Silicon Valley office, David G. Odrich (admitted in California and New York), who has extensive experience in corporate law and cross-border matters in the United States, has joined the firm and will practice from both the Silicon Valley and New York offices. His addition further strengthens our capabilities in advising on U.S. law and our ability to handle local matters.

Further details regarding the official opening date, address, and other information concerning our Silicon Valley office will be announced in due course.
