We are pleased to announce the incorporation of Mr. Tomás Polanco F. as International Special Counsel. Mr. Polanco has a solid legal career. During the last years he has acted as advisor to Venezuelan companies in Panama and the region in corporate, contractual and regulatory matters.
He has been in charge of complex corporate and financial transactions, providing advice on tax implications. Among these he has been advisor in, the design and implementation of the mortgage financing system, the takeover of Corporación Venezolana de Cementos in Venezuela, international mergers of cement related operations in multiple jurisdictions in the Caribbean, and the design of the trust for the finance in United states Dollars of real estate property in Venezuela.
Mr. Polanco was Legal Vice President of CEMEX Venezuela, the Caribbean and Brazil (1994-2008), Deputy Legal Consultant of the BBVA Provincial Bank (1990 – 1994) and partner of the law firm Polanco, Asuaje and Mármol Abogados, Venezuela (1983 – 1990).
He participated in the preparation of draft legislation in Venezuela in financial, banking and securities markets areas. He was a member of the board of directors of the Banking Association of Venezuela.
He was professor of Banking Law at the Central University of Venezuela. He is currently an honorary member of the National Bar Association of Panama, the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE), Arbitrator of the Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Caracas, Director of the Venezuelan Association of Legal Consultants of Private Companies, Member of the Board of Governors of Universidad Metropolitana Foundation, Director of the Venezuelan Foundation for Hearing and Language (IVAL) and Director of the Venezuelan Concert Association. He currently holds the position of External Director at “IU Bank, Panama”, Director at Intelinvest, Casa de Valores de Panamá and Joint Director of Conjuga Sociedad de Corretaje de Seguros de Panama.
He obtained a Doctorate in Law from the Central University of Venezuela and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Columbia Law School, New York, United States America.
