Morales & Besa strengthens its Mining and Insolvency practices with the return of Daniel Weinstein as partner and Juan Luis Goldenberg as counsel

Morales & Besa announces the return of two distinguished lawyers joining the firm this week: Daniel Weinstein, as partner in the Mining practice, and Juan Luis Goldenberg, as counsel in the Insolvency practice.

This strategic move aligns with Morales & Besa’s 2025 growth strategy, which includes strengthening both its mining and insolvency practices-areas considered strategic and with significant growth potential. The firm’s full-service model, its strong leadership in corporate, finance, projects and litigation, and the excellence of its professionals allow Morales & Besa to deliver exceptional value.

Daniel Weinstein, a lawyer from Universidad de Chile and LL.M. from the University of Chicago, has a well-established track record in the mining sector. He has served both as General Counsel for mining companies and as external counsel in a wide range of mining-related transactions and advisory matters. He also serves as Chair of the Civil Society Advisory Council of the Ministry of Mining. His return reflects the firm’s commitment to strengthening a strategic practice led by a young and talented team, at a time when the mining industry is facing major challenges and opportunities.

The Chilean mining industry is facing key decisions that require anticipating change and offering solutions grounded in a strategic vision and a deep understanding of the sector. I’m returning because I know Morales & Besa, I know how they work, and we share the same approach to tackling challenges. The firm’s structure and its leading role in some of the country’s most emblematic transactions and projects over the past decades—together with my experience and practical knowledge of the mining industry—position us to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities the sector presents today”, said Daniel Weinstein.

Juan Luis Goldenberg, a lawyer from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Doctor of Law from Universidad de Salamanca, is one of the most recognized voices in Chile in the field of insolvency and bankruptcy law. A tenured professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and advisor in the drafting of the current Insolvency and Re-entrepreneurship Law, his arrival strengthens a multidisciplinary team with experience in some of the most significant insolvency proceedings in Chile in recent years.

“I believe my return to Morales & Besa represents a valuable opportunity to contribute to the consolidation of the insolvency practice, both nationally and in cross-border contexts. This is something we have been working on in recent years—initially in my case as external counsel, and now as part of the team to further expand our presence in the area”, said Juan Luis Goldenberg.

For Morales & Besa, these additions hold special significance, as both distinguished lawyers developed a significant part of their professional careers at the firm.

These appointments reflect our firm’s determination to grow in strategic areas with high growth potential that require sophisticated and multidisciplinary legal advice”, said Carlos Silva, partner at Morales & Besa.

“With the arrival of Daniel and Juan Luis, we reaffirm our forward-looking vision and commitment to excellence in service. We will continue focusing on delivering high-value legal solutions to our clients, with strong, experienced teams aligned with the challenges faced by the industries driving the country’s development”, said Macarena Laso, Managing Partner at Morales & Besa.
