Carson McDowell’s Managing Partner and Head of Healthcare, has been named as a recipient of the 2022 Industry Defender Award by the Board of Directors of the Medical Professional Liability (MPL) Association. This award is presented to individual defence lawyers who have made outstanding lifelong contributions to defending physicians, other healthcare professionals, hospitals, and clinics, and their exceptional work on behalf of medical liability insurers.

Roger was nominated for this award by two of the firm’s clients, the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland and the Medical Protection Society, for his specialism in high-value, complex clinical negligence claims and regulatory/professional discipline investigations and his years of stellar representation successfully defending numerous healthcare professionals in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Commenting on the announcement, Roger said:

"I am honoured to receive this reward and very grateful to my clients MDDUS and MPS for nominating me. Without their very valued instructions over the last 21 years, this simply would not have happened. I can honestly say that a solicitor could not ask for two better clients. Of course, the award itself is recognition of the tremendous and hardworking Healthcare team at Carson McDowell who go above and beyond in striving to protect healthcare professionals in Northern Ireland and Ireland from the challenges that are thrown at them on a daily basis.”

Roger will receive his award from the Medical Professional Liability (MPL) Association at the 2022 MPL Association Conference in Salt Lake City on Thursday, 12th May, alongside lawyers Lori A. Barker, C. Wm. Bradley, Jr., Carl Hagwood, Michel J.J. de Ridder, and Coreen Silverman.

The MPL Association is the leading international association representing medical professional liability insurance companies, risk retention groups, captives, trusts, and other entities with a commitment to the quality delivery of healthcare.
