The law firm, Perez Correa Gonzalez (PCG), aligned with international trends in environmental protection, respect for diversity and inclusion and transparency of corporate governance, opened a new ESG practice area to advise Mexican and international companies with business in Mexico. This is a trend that is becoming increasingly relevant in the country, therefore, with the recent appointment of Ulises Moreno as a new Partner of PCG, who specializes in corporate ethics and social responsibility, we seek to respond to the new requirements that arise under this context.

The most important demands in ESG advice observed by the Pérez Correa González firm are related to the three main factors for assessing the sustainability of an investment:

● Environment: Where it is important to analyze the contribution and performance of a business in terms of respecting the environment. Regulatory compliance in this area is just the beginning of the environmental responsibility that is incumbent on all of us.

● Social Responsibility: where we evaluate how companies treat the people who collaborate in their teams. Tolerance and respect for others is now not only a civic duty, but a legal one. At some point we are all others.

● Governance: Where we examine how a company is managed in terms of managerial issues, equity, inclusion, diversity and administration, among others, which adds fundamental value to companies.

Currently, in Mexico and around the world, many companies seek to do business in a different way to generate a positive impact on the society of which they are a part. This transformation implies a new business vision that cares about the people with whom it interacts and the environment in which it operates. Legal advice on ESG, although recent in Mexico, has become an imperative need for many companies that assume an urgent responsibility with the world in which we live and the world to come. Without a doubt, ESG consulting strengthens companies and increases their value in what matters most: the historical legacy that is being built today.

"People around the world and, of course, companies, must be increasingly aware of the responsibility to address ESG issues that concern us all and that are an unavoidable ethical responsibility," said Ulises Moreno, Partner specializing in ESG.
