October 2018
HOUSTON – The Lanier Law Firm has earned the 2018 Elite Trial Lawyer awards for Product Liability Litigation and Medical Device Litigation in recognition of the firm’s record verdicts on behalf of the victims of dangerous products and medical devices.
The awards were given by the editors and reporters of The National Law Journal, Law.com and VerdictSearch, honoring lawyers and law firms demonstrating exemplary performance representing plaintiffs across 23 practice area categories. The 2018 winners were announced at the Elite Trial Lawyers ceremony on Oct. 5 in Las Vegas.
Firm founder Mark Lanier was previously announced as the recipient of the publication’s top honor – Outstanding Trial Lawyer of 2018.
“It’s important to recognize the tireless and difficult work by our team and other firms across the nation that are committed to holding corporations responsible for their actions,” said Mr. Lanier. “All too often we discover that companies are aware of, but ignore, the potential dangers of their products. Unfortunately, this is a mindset that can only be addressed and changed by securing substantial verdicts through the courts for those who are harmed.”
The firm was further recognized for securing one of the year’s Elite Trial Lawyer Top 50 Verdicts. The Lanier Law Firm won a $247 million federal court verdict in November 2017 on behalf of six people who suffered serious medical complications from metal-on-metal hip implants made by Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary, DePuy Orthopaedics. In addition, the firm was named among the 2018 Elite Trial Lawyers finalists for Mass Torts Litigation.
That verdict represents one of three cases tried by the firm in less than three years against Johnson & Johnson based on similar claims. Those three verdicts, won on behalf of multiple patients who suffered serious medical complications caused by the defective hip implant devices, cumulatively have totaled nearly $2 billion.
