Global law firm Greenberg Traurig continues to strengthen its Private Equity and Health Care practices with the addition of renowned Private Equity and M&A lawyer Stephan Rau as shareholder. He joins from McDermott Will & Emery, where he headed the European Health Law Practice Group. In addition, the firm anticipates Rau will lead the opening of a new Greenberg Traurig office in Munich in early 2025, when the firm expects to announce a number of additions.

Rau will serve as chair of the European Health Care Practice. He advises private equity and strategic investors, health care service providers, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, as well as governmental entities on private equity investments and M&A transactions, as well as licensing and reimbursement proceedings. He focuses on M&A transactions in the health care and life sciences sector, medical and health care law, and associated compliance.

This move significantly strengthens Greenberg Traurig’s German Private Equity and Health Care practices. Together with the existing private equity team led by Shareholders Peter Schorling and Henrik Armah, a total of six shareholders and 12 associates will form a legal team for private equity projects in Germany. Rau’s particular legal focus and experience complements the Europe and Middle East Private Equity Group, which consists of experienced teams in AmsterdamBerlinLondonMilanWarsawDubaiRiyadh and Tel Aviv. The Berlin office has doubled in size since its opening in 2015.

Richard A. Rosenbaum, Executive Chairman of Greenberg Traurig, said, “This addition aligns with the firm’s growth strategy to expand in areas and markets most important to clients, typically where the state of the global economy, world events, and government regulations greatly affect client needs. We are adding talent and capabilities to industries and practices where we are already leaders – including Private Equity and Health Care, like Stephan – Capital Markets, Private Credit, Energy, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Restructuring, Regulatory & Compliance, Labor & Employment, Technology, and Litigation. Stephan’s experience and reputation complement our strong team in Germany, Europe, and beyond.”

Peter Schorling, Managing Shareholder of Greenberg Traurig in Germany, welcomes the new addition: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract a health care practitioner who has been recommended by Chambers in the first tier continuously since 2011. Stephan, together with Henrik, will take our already strong Private Equity Practice to the next level and further strengthen an area that is of strategic importance to us in the United States and globally.”

Christian Schede, Founding Chairman of the Germany Practice, added, “With our growth in Private Equity and Health Care, we continue Greenberg Traurig’s success story in Germany – now in our tenth year – by adding a second location. We consistently focus on evolving industries.”
