Basham, Ringe y Correa through its associate Gloria Niembro, advised GNP (Grupo Nacional Provincial), the major insurance company in Mexico, and Grupo Expansión, the major publishing and media production company in Mexico, in a marketing campaign for GNP created by Grupo Expansion to cheer up Mexican people during the battle against Coronavirus.
Several famous local celebrities, such as influencers, athletes, actors, singers, took part in the campaign by singing “Cielito Lindo”, a well-known and iconic Mexican song. A video was released in social media with each famous person singing a short stretch.
Our firm negotiated the use of the copyright over the lyrics and music of the song “Cielito Lindo” owned by an important Mexican music publisher and drafted the subsequent license agreement. Further, I reviewed several agreements in connection with the talent recruited for this project to ensure that all copyright (including performance rights) and intellectual property-related aspects were duly covered.
