· ECIJA opens in Costa Rica its first "Advisory" unit outside Europe, betting on providing a comprehensive and highly specialized service to companies operating in the free zone sector, but especially to those who want to enter such sector.

ECIJA, a Spanish firm with operations in Costa Rica since 2018 and open offices in San Jose and Guanacaste, announced the launch of "ECIJA Advisory", a business line aimed at the integral management of companies as well as regulatory compliance, centered on those companies and parks operating in free zone in the Latin American region.

The firm -which earlier this year also launched a practice on international taxation-, motivated by the profound modernization in which the free zone regime in Costa Rica is immersed and the expansion of incentives for the operation outside the Greater Metropolitan Area, bets on this new line of business from the world's leading country in terms of foreign investment level compared to its gross domestic product, according to Investment Monitor for 2021. Both the technology transfer made by these companies, as well as the boost to the diversification of the exportable supply, have allowed the evolution of traditional activities and sectors towards activities of greater sophistication and added value, which by 2019, represented about 53% of the total exports of Costa Rica.

Oscar Campos, a lawyer specialized in Free Trade Zones and Customs, will lead the Advisory's practice. He has over 10 years of experience in the configuration and compliance processes of businesses within the free trade zone regime. The last 5 years, he worked for PROCOMER, and was in charge of the legal and customs advisory of foreign and national investments that apply to the regime, and especially in the operational modernization of the Free Zone Law.

"The Free Zone Regime in Costa Rica has become the tool par excellence for the attraction of foreign direct investment and not only that, it also represents the preferred instrument for local investment that, by its nature and global vision, demands a highly efficient and competitive ecosystem," said Campos.

For his part, Mauricio París managing partner of ECIJA in Central America comments: "We are very excited to open in Costa Rica our first Advisory operation outside Europe, focused on a very defined business niche, which is a pillar of growth in the country and the region".
