DZP advised Polregio sp. z o.o. in obtaining a positive decision from the European Commission approving state aid of over PLN 6 billion. On 20 April 2021, following a comprehensive and multi-faceted investigation, the European Commission gave its final approval for state aid to be granted to Polregio, headed by President of the Management Board Artur Martyniuk.
The decision concludes the formal procedure on restructuring aid to Poland's leading regional railway operator. The Commission procedure, which has been ongoing since 2015, covered funds of over PLN 770 million received by the company in September 2015 from the Industrial Development Agency granted as restructuring aid and other state aid of over PLN 5.4 billion granted to the company before 2015 in the context of an overall restructuring.
DZP advised Polregio at every stage of this long-term process, both during the analyses preceding the granting of the aid and in the preparation of notification documentation, and provided comprehensive advice throughout the European Commission's investigation and submission of a series of explanations, also in the context of the overall development of the railway sector in Poland.
The project was carried out by a team led by DZP Partners Anna Glapa and Marcin Krakowiak, supported by experts Aneta Włoszek and Tomasz Zielenkiewicz.
