Dentons, the worlds’ largest law firm, has advised Zafar Khashimov, the owner of Korzinka, the leading grocery store chain in Uzbekistan, on the sale of a minority share in the chain to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Under the terms of the deal the EBRD will invest up to $40 million in the growth and modernisation of the Korzinka chain, tripling the number of stores over the next four years. This is the EBRD’s first equity investment in a privately-owned company in Uzbekistan in a decade.
Dentons partners Louis Skyner and Richard Barham, both based in London, advised the owner of Korzinka on the transaction.
