Carter-Ruck partner and associate have advised the prominent film director and film editor (Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, The English Patient) concerning their film Coup 53. Coup 53 is a historical documentary about the CIA/MI6 sponsored coup in Iran which took place in August 1953. Coup 53 tells the story of the overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister Mossadegh and his replacement by the Shah of Iran.
The story is told in unprecedented detail and also includes dramatic revelations about secrets buried for 67 years. The film has won many awards and it has received numerous accolades.
The Guardian’s film critic Peter Bradshaw awarded the documentary 4/5 stars and highlights it as “powerful and authoritative documentary by the Iranian filmmaker Taghi Amirani [and] is as gripping as any thriller”, “A riveting documentary on a very British coup” [and] “a grim curtain-raiser to today’s tragedies”
The Times film reviewer Larushka Ivan-Zadeh gave it a 5 star review and praised “The sheer level of granular detail [that] could overwhelm without Amirani’s boundless to-camera energy.
