Hong Kong, 18 December 2017: Staff and friends of Boase Cohen & Collins played a full part as the firm helped raise a record sum at Hong Kong’s biggest charity golf tournament.
The WAGS (Wednesday Afternoon Golf Society) Charity Golf Day 2017, held at Kau Sai Chau Public Course, generated HK$1.1 million for the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation, an impressive increase from the previous year’s figure of HK$600,000.
One of the day’s highlights was the Boase Cohen & Collins Beat the Pro Hole – the tricky par-three 13th on Kau Sai Chau’s East Course – where, in return for a donation, players could attempt to win prizes by getting their tee shot nearer to the pin than resident professional Paul Riley.
BC&C Senior Partner Colin Cohen who, together with WAGS President Glenn Haley, spent the day on the tee encouraging players to take part, was delighted with the response.
“Everyone entered into the spirit of the event and gave generously with the result that we raised more than HK$30,000 on this hole alone, almost three times last year’s total. It was a wonderful team effort,” said Mr Cohen.
“In particular, we would like to thank Paul Riley for his tireless and innovative fund-raising ideas. For extra cash donations he allowed players to choose his club for him, so sometimes he used a driver or a putter, and on several occasions he even kept the clubhead cover on and still hit a decent shot!”
In addition, Boase Cohen & Collins fielded a four-man team in the tournament featuring Consultant Michael Jackson plus friends of the firm Steve Rowlinson, Scott Veitch and Andy Henderson.
The WAGS Charity Golf Day 2017, in which some 144 players took part, concluded with a Prize Giving Dinner in the Kau Sai Chau clubhouse that included a charity auction and a speech from Helenita Pistolas, CEO of the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation.
The Foundation helps underprivileged children and those at-risk of commercial or sexual exploitation. Operational centres in Vietnam and Mongolia provide shelter to vulnerable, orphaned or abandoned children while ensuring they have direct access to education, healthcare and social and employment opportunities.
Mr Cohen added: “As a firm we are committed to community outreach and being actively involved in charitable initiatives. This was a wonderful event for a worthy cause and we were delighted to play our part. Our congratulations go to organising committee chairman Brian Moss and his WAGS colleagues for their outstanding achievement.”
