The Law Firm CCA, through CCA ON, its Knowledge and Innovation Centre, joined the United Nations in signing the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP), a joint initiative of the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations Development Fund for Women that aims to strengthen the role of women in the workplace, market and community. CCA is thus the 25th company in Portugal to sign this commitment, in a universe of 1200 entities worldwide.
According to Rita Cruz, Chairperson of CCA ON and Partner of CCA, “it is absolutely critical to creating working conditions to ensure that everyone, women, and men, can develop and perform professionally. And the challenge is not only to maintain a balance between the percentage of men and women working with us – which effectively allows us to draw out what each one has best – but, and above all, to create equal conditions for training and advancement. Situations in which women (or even men) have to choose between the full exercise of their profession and personal life must be absolutely exceptional. It is clear that many things in society, in general, must change, but if each of us, each company, contributes, I believe we can accelerate this change of habits and prejudices. At CCA, we are persuaded that equal opportunities and diversity are critical elements for success and for retaining talent.”
At CCA, 66% of the team are women, 52% in positions of management, and 47% at the Board of Directors, which shows the company’s commitment to creating conditions that promote equality, inclusion, and well-being, these being critical axes in the human resource management policy.
By signing this commitment, CCA declares its commitment to the adoption of the seven Core Principles of WEP:
- Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality;
- Treat all women and men fairly at work: respect and support human rights and non-discrimination;
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all employees, regardless of gender;
- Promote the education, training, and professional development of women;
- Implement actions in the organization, value chain, and marketing that promote the empowerment of women;
- Promote equality through community initiatives;
- Measure and publicly report on the Organisation’s progress towards achieving gender equality.
