Hong Kong, 30 January 2018: Boase Cohen & Collins is pleased to announce it is once again featured in the performance rankings of Chambers and Partners, publishers of the world’s premier legal guide.
BC&C is listed as a “Leading Firm” in the Family/Matrimonial (International Firms) category of the 2018 Asia-Pacific Guide while Partner Usha Casewell, who heads the Family Law practice, is named as a “Leading Individual”.
In welcoming the news, BC&C Senior Partner Colin Cohen commented: “Chambers is renowned throughout the legal world for its integrity and neutrality when compared with other legal listings, many of which promote paid-for rankings or lack credibility. Therefore, we are delighted to be featured in the 2018 Asia-Pacific Guide.
“Family Law is a core practice area for our firm and we have a particularly strong team led by my colleague Usha who has established a reputation as one of Hong Kong’s top matrimonial practitioners. Our ranking in Chambers is a reflection of her leadership and the proficiency of our matrimonial lawyers.”
In profiling BC&C, Chambers quotes one commentator as saying: "They are a modern general practice firm with an old-school sense of client service, integrity, wisdom and practicality such that their clients feel at ease and confident that whatever their legal need may be, the team will take care of it and at a reasonable cost."
Mrs Casewell, who is also a trained mediator and collaborative practitioner, is a long-standing committee member of the Hong Kong Family Law Association and is currently Vice Chairman, having previously served as Chairman from 2013-16.
Also, she has been a committee member of the Hong Kong Collaborative Practice Group since 2010 and has sat on the Judiciary’s Working Group on Children and Ancillary Relief. Previously, she has worked with the Law Society of Hong Kong sub-committee on enforcement of maintenance orders. Mrs Casewell has also presented CPD courses for practitioners and given talks to women’s groups.
Mrs Casewell commented: “Our Family Law clients come from a wide range of backgrounds and cases vary from relatively straightforward to highly complex, sometimes involving multiple jurisdictions and extensive assets. In each instance, we pride ourselves on giving the same high standard of service. We treat every case as unique and therefore requiring a tailor-made solution.”
Chambers quotes one client as saying: "Usha was enormously helpful providing practical, real-time and out of hours guidance," while a peer states that she is "immensely respected by lawyers and judges".
Chambers and Partners has been ranking the best lawyers since 1990 and now covers 185 jurisdictions. The firm has a team of more than 170 full-time editors and researchers at its head office in London.
