HOUSTON – AZA has been ranked the 12th best-performing law firm in the nation in a study of more than 900 law firms active in inter partes review (IPR) patent cases over the past five years.

The analysis was conducted by Patexia Inc., a global community of intellectual property professionals. Patexia used federal databases to analyze all IPR cases filed from July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2019, to produce its 2019 IPR Intelligence Report. The study assessed more than 8,000 cases involving over 5,000 patents.

“AZA has a robust and winning IPR practice as part of our successful patent litigation work in Texas, before the federal circuit in Washington, and around the world,” said Amir Alavi, who heads the firm’s patent and IP practice group with Demetrios Anaipakos.

This summer AZA was also named one of the top patent litigation firms in Texas by London-based intellectual property publisher IAM for the fifth consecutive year.

“AZA is a firm of top-notch patent litigators who excel at trial work – when they get up to handle witnesses and present legal arguments, they have this uncanny ability to convince judge and jury that they are right whatever the circumstances,” IAM’s global guide said of AZA’s intellectual property group.

“We may be a boutique, but we are regularly taking on Big Law in our patent and IP practice and it usually turns out like Goliath when he met David,” Mr. Anaipakos said. AZA was also ranked by Patexia as the 18th best-performing firm among those representing patent owners.

AZA has advised clients in IP and IP-related cases throughout the world, including Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The firm’s patent lawyers have experience in numerous industry sectors including energy, technology, chemistry, biochemistry, telecom, hardware and software, and transportation. The firm has had success representing both plaintiffs and defendants in IP cases.
