HOUSTON – AZA again was named among law firms that general counsel and top-level legal counsel consumers fear the most in BTI Consulting’s list “Clients Single Out the Most Feared Law Firms in Litigation.”
As BTI put it, a fearsome reputation “starts working before the lawyers do. … This is fear as a litigation asset.” As always, most of the firms on the list are Big Law, and many are international.
“The right opposing counsel makes other lawyers – and their clients – reconsider how long they want to fight, how much they want to spend, how certain they really are – and what losing might look like,” BTI stated of its list, which it compiled by asking corporate counsel which law firms they least want to see on the other side.
AZA has repeatedly made BTI’s Most Feared list since 2015, including for the past four years. Only 92 firms nationwide made the 2027 list, which included AZA in The BTI Awesome Opponents 2027 section. AZA is one of only six Texas-based firms on the full list.
BTI, which specializes in strategic legal market research, has also recorded praise for AZA from general counsel in surveys about the best client service, the firms that best listen to clients and the best client relations. In 2026, AZA partner Monica Uddin was one of only 240 lawyers nationwide named to the BTI Client Service All-Stars.
“We are thrilled to be one of the most feared in the country, although we already knew it. We have repeatedly been hired by companies we beat in prior cases. And we get hired often on the eve of trial when clients realize they need more firepower,” said AZA co-founder and managing partner John Zavitsanos.
