Career

Juan Francisco Torres Landa has helped many companies establish a presence in Mexico and grow over the years. Throughout his career, Juan Francisco has excelled in civil, commercial, and corporate areas. He also helps clients with the financing of projects and acquisitions, foreign investments, foreign trade, arbitration, immigration, environmental matters, economic competition, mining, taxation of non-residents, and telecommunications.

Juan Francisco has been senior lecturer at several universities, including National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), and Universidad Iberoamericana. He has also been a keynote speaker in numerous forums, both in Mexico and abroad.

Juan Francisco joined Barrera Siqueiros y Torres Landa (currently Hogan Lovells) in September 1983 and became partner in 1995. He also spent time as an associate foreign lawyer in Washington, D.C. in 1990.

He has been instrumental as legal consultant in several foreign investments in Mexico by easing their incorporation, development, expansion, and consolidation processes.

Advised Mondelēz International in the acquisition of Grupo Bimbo’s confectionery business for approximately USD$1.3 billion.​

Advised NX Football USA LLC in the acquisition of 50% of Club de Fútbol Necaxa.

Advice Yazaki Group, Goodyear, Cardone Industries, among others, in the rapid response labor mechanism under the USMCA framework.

Counsel Mitsubishi Corporation in its dealings as the 49% owner of the largest salt mine in Baja California Sur. This assistance includes corporate, procurement and regulatory issues.

Advising Valoreo in the initial round of financing for US$50m, as well as in the operations for its establishment and growth in Latin America.

Assisting Grupo BAL in the review of new investments in the financial and energy sectors; coordinating advice to proceed with project's evaluations.

Handling the reorganization of Procter & Gamble Mexico in a multi-jurisdiction strategy involving sophisticated corporate, tax, labor, and foreign trade.

Represented Cooper Tire in the acquisition of the minority stake of local investors in Coocsa, for approximately US$50m.

Assisting Carso Energy with the cross-border project of the Presidio gas pipeline from Texas to Chihuahua.
